COVAS
New CoVAS System with Stand-alone Capability

Now you can rate any experience on a computerized and continuous visual analog scale
CoVAS Computerized Visual Analog Scale offers computerized, real-time, continuous VAS evaluation on a 100 mm scale – adding an important dimension to behavioral stimulus intensity or quality measurements.

CoVAS can be utilized on its own or with one of Medoc’s thermal or pressure devices.
Stand-alone rating of pain or other experiences
CoVAS can be used as a stand-alone device to rate anything from pain, itch, unpleasantness or the intensity of any other stimulus or experience.

CoVAS does not have any grids, lines, “clicks”, wording or numbers displayed; only a colored ramp from green to red above the slider mechanism.

Having the participant rate their experience without any interaction with the operator will diminish bias introduced by such an interaction. Further, in contrast to using a Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), the participant will not be able to “compare” their own ratings to previous ratings, thus improving the authenticity of their ratings.
High Resolution Results with Medoc Stimuli
When CoVAS is used in conjunction with one of Medoc’s thermal or pressure devices, the stimulus and patient response curves are synchronized and available for export to Excel. CoVAS can be used for continuous monitoring of response during experimental sessions of different types of stimuli; or to assess the influence of analgesia over a period of time, such as in pharmacologic studies.

CoVAS provides a high temporal resolution and a sensitive response to the delivered stimuli. Sampling rate can be adjusted to receive the right resolution of results to fit the time frame of the stimulus or intervention. It can be a significant tool for monitoring and analyzing the reaction to tonic or ultra-fast phasic stimuli; for instance, during the Temporal Summation of Pain, Conditioned Pain Modulation, or Offset Analgesia protocols.
Hardware and Software
CoVAS comes with a USB connector to the computer and Medoc Main Station Operating Software (MMS) to facilitate use either in a stand-alone manner; or synchronized with the Medoc TSA2, TSA2 Air, Q-Sense or AlgoMed devices.
